As the GIS Team Lead, you will be responsible for managing GIS tasks for large projects, organizing and scheduling work, supervising staff, and ensuring the quality and efficiency of GIS products and services. You will play a crucial role in business development, standardizing processes, and staying abreast of technological advancements.
Key Responsibilities:
- Project Management: Lead and manage GIS tasks for large-scale projects, including organizing, estimating, and communicating tasks and schedules.
- Team Supervision: Supervise the GIS team, including training, prioritizing, assigning, and reviewing work to ensure high performance and professional development.
- Business Development: Contribute to the business development process by defining proposed milestones, estimating work, and documenting project needs and processes.
- Standards Development: Help develop standards for map production, data management, and GIS tools to ensure consistency and quality.
- Performance Monitoring: Monitor the performance of all GIS team members, providing feedback and guidance to improve efficiency and output.
- Reporting: Prepare and present periodic reports to management on GIS activities, project progress, and team performance.
- Quality Assurance: Ensure the quality of GIS products and services, addressing any issues and implementing improvements as needed.
- Future Planning: Investigate and propose future GIS team activities, identifying opportunities for growth and development.
- Data Facilitation: Effectively facilitate the use of various types of GIS data, ensuring accurate and efficient data integration and application.
- Technology Evaluation: Evaluate technological advances in GIS and promote the adoption of appropriate solutions among end-users.
Qualifications:
- Experience: 5-7 years of experience in managing a GIS team, with a strong track record in leading large projects and supervising staff.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency with GIS software such as ArcGIS, QGIS, and JOSM is preferred.
- Project Management: Ability to organize, estimate, and communicate GIS-related tasks and schedules effectively.
- Leadership: Demonstrated ability to lead, train, and manage a team, with experience in developing standards and ensuring high-quality outcomes.
- Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to present complex information clearly and effectively.
- Analytical Skills: Strong problem-solving and analytical abilities, with a keen eye for detail.
Education and Experience:
- Degree: Bachelor’s degree in Geography, GIS, Computer Science, or a related field; Master’s degree preferred.
- Experience: 6-10 years of extensive experience in GIS roles, including previous management or leadership positions.
