We are seeking a detail-oriented and technically proficient Map Editor to join our dynamic team. As a Map Editor, you will play a crucial role in curating and maintaining accurate geographic data using OpenStreetMap. You will collaborate closely with our development and product teams to ensure our maps are up-to-date and meet the highest quality standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Edit and update geographic data on OpenStreetMap to reflect current information accurately.
- Validate and correct existing map features to ensure data integrity and consistency.
- Utilize OSM editing tools and best practices to improve map coverage and detail.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand mapping requirements for various projects.
- Research and integrate third-party data sources to enhance map accuracy and completeness.
- Participate in community discussions and forums to stay updated on OSM developments and best practices.
- Contribute to the development of automated tools and processes to streamline map editing workflows.
- Perform quality assurance checks on edited data to maintain high data quality standards.
- Document editing processes and maintain accurate records of changes made to OSM data.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Geography, Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Computer Science, or a related field (or equivalent practical experience).
- Proficiency in using OpenStreetMap editing tools such as iD Editor, JOSM, or similar.
- Strong understanding of geographic data concepts, including coordinate systems, projections, and metadata.
- Experience in editing and contributing to OpenStreetMap or similar open-source mapping platforms.
- Familiarity with GIS software and spatial analysis techniques is preferred.
- Excellent attention to detail and ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate effectively in a team environment.
